How to Design the Perfect Flyer
Christmas is just around the corner. Are you marching into the busy season armed with strong marketing materials?
Flyers are a great way to attract attention and share information about your business and services – but it’s crucial to stand out from the crowd.
Read on for a step-by-step guide to designing the perfect flyer.
Step 1: Plan!
What do you want your flyer to do? Advertise a new product or service? Appeal to a particular target audience? Promote a special event? Before you start creating your flyer make sure you’re clear about your objective, who you’re trying to attract and what you want them to do when they’ve read it. This will make it much easier to write your message clearly and concisely.
Make a list of elements to include, such as logo, tagline, URL, social media handles, physical address, phone number, and email address. Once you’re immersed in the details of the design, it’s easy to forget to include something important.
Step 2: Design!
Effective marketing materials are consistent, making your brand instantly recognisable. This means your colours, fonts, and logo should be the same on all printed materials, your website and your business premises. Images should also be consistent, on-brand, eye-catching, and representative of your brand personality.
Flyers have a variety of sizes and shapes. Consider what will appeal to your target audience and be most useful to them.
Make sure your primary message is clearly displayed and all other text is concise and uses words your customers would use.
Step 3: Create!
If you’re producing your own flyer, canvas or photoshop are great places to start. Otherwise, consider hiring a freelance designer or contact us to find out how we can help you.
Step 4: Proof!
Once you have a design, ask someone who hasn’t been involved to proof it for you. It’s much easier to spot mistakes and typos if you aren’t close to it. Go back and check off the list you made about elements to include.
Step 5: Print!
The cost of printing will depend on the quantity, time, and quality of the paper so make sure you’re clear about your budget before you consider the options. The materials you choose such as the quality and texture of the paper, whether it’s matte or gloss finish and the size should all reflect the objective you defined at the start.
