Tips for Advertising a New Business

New businesses rely on two things: good ideas and good promotion.

A good business needs good advertisement, and the best business idea in the world will go nowhere without intelligent and appropriate advertising, especially in a big city like London.

In this blog post, we consider some top tips for advertising new small businesses, to help you to ensure that your great ideas and entrepreneurial excellence are given the voice and exposure they need and deserve.

  1. Find the right audience

This one is well-known, but too many businesses panic, and instead decide to blindly target as many people as they possibly can. This is a waste of time and money.

Not everyone is going to value your business or be interested in what it can offer.

Think very carefully about who wants to buy your services and your products, and you’re already a lot closer to success.

Any ideas, images and words which you use on your advertising materials should reflect the needs and interests of these people. Home in on your true audience.

  1. Good branding is essential

Keep your branding simple, eye-catching and consistent. The most successful businesses on the planet don’t create complicated logos and branding… they craft simple and recognisable images and ideas.

Most people in the world recognise the logos and branding of Nike, Adidas, McDonald’s and Apple, and they’re all very simple.

  1. Where are your audience?

Many potential millionaires get this wrong, and assume that they know where their audience invest their time and money.

You should spend a lot of time getting this right. Don’t guess.

Instead, interview your target audience, speak to them, get to know their habits and routines. You can then use this research to make your marketing particularly focused and specific.

  1. Time is essential

As a new business, especially one in the pricey metropolis of London, you won’t have a lot of money to spend.

Spend it wisely by thinking about the best time to advertise, rather than doing it year-round.

If, for example, you own a greetings card business, Christmas would of course be a good time to kick off.

Less specific businesses might not offer such obvious clues as to the best timing for marketing, but there’s always one moment which is better than another.

  1. Online and print need to work together

Synchronise your online advertising with your print advertising. Make them look the same, feel the same, sound the same and tell the same story. Consistency is key.

This can all be a bit complicated, complex and intimidating, especially if you’re just getting started.
